Statement by Italian and European Parliamentarians and members of Italian Civil Society
Rome - Hon. Mario Baccini, President of the Italian Committee for Microcredit spoke to a workshop about microfinance in Rome at Camera dei Deputati, Sala Della Mercede that was organized by the Committee in partnership with Bologna University. During the meeting which was attended by Mr. Sam Daley-Harris, Director of the Microcredit Summit Campaign, it was hoped that a solution would be found to the current events in Bangladesh.
Hon. Mario Baccini, MP, together with Prof. Luisa Brunori of Bologna University, Sam Daley-Harris and European Member of Parliament Sylvia Costa issued the following statement: "Professor Muhammad Yunus and Grameen Bank have made an important contribution to social development in Bangladesh through microfinance. Prof. Yunus and Grameen Bank are leading actors in the fight against poverty. This is why we express deep solidarity with Professor Yunus with the wish that there can be a solution to the situation.

Roma - L'on. Mario Baccini, Presidente del Comitato Nazionale Italiano Permanente per il Microcredito, è intervenuto ad un workshop sugli strumenti micro finanziari, organizzato dallo stesso Comitato in collaborazione con l'Università di Bologna.
In occasione dell'incontro, al quale ha partecipato anche Sam Daley-Harris, Direttore del Microcredit Summit Campaign, è stata auspicata una soluzione delle questioni che il settore sta vivendo in Bangladesh. L'on. Baccini, insieme al dottor Harris, alla parlamentare europea on. Silvia Costa e a Luisa Brunori dell'Università di Bologna, hanno sottoscritto la seguente dichiarazione:
"Muhammad Yunus e la Grameen Bank hanno dato un importante contributo allo sviluppo sociale del Bangladesh attraverso gli strumenti micro finanziari. Il professor Yunus e la Gameen sono tra i protagonisti principali della lotta alla povertà estrema. Per tale ragione esprimiamo profonda solidarietà con l'auspicio che possa essere trovata quanto prima una soluzione alla vicenda".
