Muhammad Yunus Fellowships

Dr. Muhammad Yunus, one of Asian University for Women’s earliest supporters, currently serves on AUW’s Bangladesh Board of Advisors. Having grown up in Bangladesh, witnessing poverty and powerlessness firsthand, he acutely understands the importance of AUW’s mission. Interestingly, his first experiment with micro-lending, which resulted in the creation of the Nobel Prize-winning Grameen Bank, occurred just a few miles away from AUW’s campus in the village of Jobra.

The Muhammad Yunus Fellowship is awarded to daughters of Grameen Bank borrowers who demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities. Each fellowship fully funds the student’s attendance at the University for six years. It includes tuition, room and board, medical care, and school supplies for AUW’s Access Academy, undergraduate, and graduate programs.

The impact of Grameen Bank reaches far beyond the borrowers; it opens up avenues for the borrowers’ families as well. In the same manner, it is our hope that the impact of a higher education will reach far beyond the Muhammad Yunus Fellows, the leaders of tomorrow.
