French Minister Visits Social Business In Bangladesh

Martin Hirsch, French minister for Active Solidarities against Poverty and for Young people, his wife are accompanied by a 36 person delegation from France for a three day visit to Bangladesh.

The purpose of the visit is to learn more about social business and Grameen Bank activities. They are also in Dhaka for the meeting of the board of the HEC Social Business Chair, one of the top schools of business in France. Martin Hirsch and his delegation will hold several meetings with Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, visit the Grameen Danone factory in Bogra. In addition to that, the delegation has held meetings with North South University, visit Grameen Bank activities and visit poor neighborhood within Dhaka.


Mrs. Hirsch, an equally important personality in France participated in round table discussion with writers, literary personalities and journalists.

HEC introduced the “Social Business Chair” on December 5, 2008 inspired by the work of Professor Yunus. The Chair has developed a training program on social business designed to complement the final-year curriculum of MSc in Management students at HEC or at other business schools and universities. The objective is to help students to come up with innovative social business that contribute significantly to reducing poverty and exclusion in both developing countries and developed countries such as France.
