Yunus Centre Student Interactive Program
On December 6, 2009, selected students from top private and public universities attended the first Student Interactive Program at the Yunus Centre in Dhaka.
This is the first in a series of events that will bring together the Yunus Centre, important personalities, and students to discuss social issues in Bangladesh and across the globe and means of solving them.
Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chairman of Yunus Centre, presented to the students the concept of social business. He helped guide them through questions regarding Grameen Bank, microcredit and social business. Students took the floor and asked many pressing questions and helped steer the discussions further.
There was a presentation of social business by Executive Director of Yunus Centre Ms. Lamiya Morshed, an introduction of Yunus Centre by Shams Islam, and presentations of the Yunus Centre and Grameen Social Business website by Nadina Perera and Daniela Kreimer.
The day's program ended with "Next Steps" where each group of students came up with social business ideas to help solve a critical challenge in Bangladesh. Students discussed and argued various social issues plaguing Bangladesh and means of solving them. New social business ideas such as water purification projects, a coastal green belt through Bangladesh and cold storage facilities for poor farmers among others were discussed as methods by which the Bangladesh economy can be improved.
