Invitation from the Prime Minister of Malaysia asking Professor Muhammad Yunus to join the MSC Malaysia International Advisory Panel

In a letter dated 30 July, 2009, Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib of Malaysia invited Professor Yunus to be a member of the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) Malaysia International Advisory Panel (IAP) which provides counsel to the Malaysian government on issues regarding the economy and innovation.

This panel advises the Prime Minister of Malaysia on matters regarding technology and wealth creation.  Members of the panel range from industry luminaries to thought leaders.  The IAP has been running for 12 years and has expanded the realm of ICT companies from 300 to over 2000.  This in turn has generated a US $5 billion in revenue and provided 80,000 jobs.

Technology has advanced at a breathtaking pace since then, altering the way the world lives, plays, does business and even its politics.  Consequently, policies have to be adjusted accordingly.   This year’s edition of the International Advisory Panel will be a special one as the Malaysian government is looking to chart a new course in partnership with the panelists, one that will help the nation navigate the new technological landscape and help it achieve greater heights in innovation and wealth creation.

The International Advisory Panel is in fact recognized as the highest level advisory think tank group to the prime minister of Malaysia and valued as a structured platform for the government to obtain accurate, timely and expert advice on technology and related matters.

Professor Yunus has accepted this invitation and will serve on the Advisory Panel for 2 years beginning August 1, 2009. Â
