Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee arrives in Dhaka
Dhaka, Feb 21 (PTI) Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee arrived here today on a three-day visit to Bangladesh to address the newly elected lawmakers here."I am very happy to be in Dhaka at the invitation of Speaker Abdul Hamid," Chatterjee told reporters after arriving at Zia International Airport along with his wife Renu Chatterjee here.
Hamid and his wife, Chief whip Mohammad Abdus Shahid, senior lawmakers, officials and acting Indian High Commissioner here Mukta D Tomar where also present.      Â
The veteran Indian parliamentarian would address the inaugural session of the four-day Parliamentary Orientation Programme tomorrow.
The programme will provide a forum for senior lawmakers, experts and veteran foreign parliamentarians to share their experiences and best practices regarding parliamentary norms.
Chatterjee, will join Bangladesh's International Mother Language Day celebrations offering wreaths at the Shaheed Minar, 1952 Bengali language martyrs' monument, later today.
"I recall their (martyrs) supreme sacrifices for the mother tongue and congratulate all Bengali speaking people across the world on this day," he said.
Chatterjee is scheduled to meet President Zillur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the Jatiya Sangad speaker Md Abdul Hamid and Professor Muhammad Yunus during his stay. PTI
