Professor Muhammad Yunus Condoles the Death of HRH Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz al Saud

“I am shocked to hear the sudden news of the death of HRH Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz al Saud. I cannot believe he is no longer with us.

HRH Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz al Saud was an amazing personality. Born in royal family but his heart was with the downtrodden people. I was surprised to see how easily he became enthusiastic about my work with the poor people. From my first meeting with him during a conference in Paris at UNESCO headquarters he took me under his arm. Since then he treated me as a close friend and always asked for my advice on development issues. He loved my work. He loved my economic thinking. He gave his full support to me in anything I wanted to do. I cannot forget his love and affection for me.

I cannot believe HRH, my friend is no more. The world is poorer today because he is no longer with us.

His natural dedication to human development and protecting the dignity of disadvantaged citizens of the world has been unparalleled. His lifelong commitment to the cause of the poor, especially the poor women was amply demonstrated through his work. He did a courageous job of establishing a chain of microcredit banks for the poor in the MENA region.Through AGFUND, he has tirelessly worked for ensuring access of the poor to financial services and strengthens the microcredit movement. He dedicated his life and efforts to alleviate the suffering of poor groups in the developing nations, particularly women and children. The noble missions he pursued made him one of the leading philanthropists and humanitarians in the world, and one of the most distinguished Arab personalities known for their outstanding contributions in the field of development, particularly sustainable human development. History will remember him as a true change-maker, a unifying force and a beloved leader.

I wish to convey my deepest sympathies and condolences to the Royal family and to the people of Saudi Arabia and pray that all of you find the strength at this most difficult time. May Allah grant him eternal peace.
