Muhammad Yunus urges to make society equitable by creating more entrepreneurs, during events in three cities in India

Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus visited and spoke in three major cities of India – Kolkata, Delhi and Jaipur – last week.
He was invited to Tata Steel Kolkata Literary Meet, which was held in association with The Telegraph. The setting of the talk was with the backdrop of the Victoria Memorial on 22 January, 2018. At two different speaking events, he spoke about his latest book in the literary meet, A World of Three Zeroes, which focuses addressing the enormous social and economic challenges facing our planet, and creating a world with zero poverty, zero unemployment, and zero net carbon emissions.
Professor Yunus said that he believed that young generation need not follow the previous generation. “The young generation has to create their own world. Living in the inherited world is no option. You have to take charge of yourself. Stay on course, know what you want. And it will be done if you make up your mind,” he said at the literary meet.
He then went to Delhi after his Kolkata Literary Meet, where he had a meeting with Ashoka University to discuss social business collaboration with Yunus Centre and Yunus Social Business India. Ashoka University is an innovative multi-disciplinary university located an hour outside Delhi, focused on creating graduates who are successful entrepreneurs and societal change makers. Ashoka has also announced its intention to create a Yunus Social Business Centre at the university the agreement for which will be signed on the campus in April.
While in Delhi, Professor Yunus also addressed a meeting of the board and members of Impact Investing Council, the policy advisory body of the impact investing community in India, comprising of important business people and policy makers at the Nehru Museum and Library.
Later in the week, Professor Muhammad Yunus participated in the Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) on 25th Januray, 2018. He was interviewed on stage by economist Mihir Sharma to a packed audience. While talking on his new book he told that "Poverty is not a problem with the poor people. It's externally imposed on them. People need economic oxygen. Since it is not available for them, they cannot breathe. If you connect them with financial oxygen, suddenly they become alive. The entire financial system in the world is not poor-people friendly," According to Yunus, all people are entrepreneurial but the financial world does not recognize that. He believes that society can be more equitable only by creating new entrepreneurs.
Later, a special convocation was held to confer Doctor of Philosophy Honoris Causa on Professor Yunus at Amity University Rajasthan on 26 January which is also India's Republic Day. During the convocation Dr Aseem Chauhan, the Chancellor of the university announced that Amity would establish a Yunus Social Business Centre (YSBC) at each one of their ten universities in India, which have 40 campuses across the country and 15 international campuses in 15 countries. The Chancellor also announced that the first YSBC they establish in Rajasthan campus would provide two PhD scholarships in social business. Professor Yunus in his acceptance remarks encouraged the students to imagine the world they wish to live in and urged them to build that new world.
While in India, Professor Yunus had interviews with several major media such as the Indian Express, NDTV, The Statesman, Outlook India, Hindustan Times and many others.

নোবেল লরিয়েট প্রফেসর মুহাম্মদ ইউনূস গত সপ্তাহে ভারতের তিনটি বৃহৎ নগরী - কোলকাতা, দিল্লী ও জয়পুর এ বিভিন্ন অনুষ্ঠানে ভাষণ দেন।
কোলকাতায় তিনি দি টেলিগ্রাফের সাথে যৌথভাবে অনুষ্ঠিত “টাটা স্টীল কোলকাতা সাহিত্য সভা”র আমন্ত্রণক্রমে সেখানে যোগদান করেন। ২২ জানুয়ারী ২০১৮ এই আলোচনা অনুষ্ঠানের পশ্চাৎপটে ছিল ভিক্টোরিয়া মেমোরিয়াল। সাহিত্য সভায় দু’টি পৃথক বক্তৃতায় তিনি তাঁর সর্বশেষ গ্রন্থ A World of Three Zeroes” নিয়ে কথা বলেন যে বইটিতে পৃথিবীর সামনে থাকা বিশাল সব সামাজিক ও অর্থনৈতিক সমস্যা তুলে ধরা হয়েছে এবং একটি শূন্য দারিদ্র, শুন্য বেকারত্ব ও শূন্য নীট কার্বন নিঃস্বরণের পৃথিবী গড়ে তোলার উপায় নিয়ে বিস্তারিত আলোচনা করা হয়েছে।
প্রফেসর ইউনূস বলেন যে, তরুণ প্রজন্মকে পূর্ববর্তী প্রজন্মের পদাঙ্ক অনুসরণ করার প্রয়োজন নেই। নতুন প্রজন্মকে তাদের নিজেদের পৃথিবী নিজেদের মতো করে গড়ে তুলে নিতে হবে। পূর্ববর্তী প্রজন্মের রেখে যাওয়া পৃথিবীতে বাস করা কোনো সমাধান নয়। তোমাদের নিজেদের দায়িত্ব তোমাদের নিজেদেরকেই নিতে হবে। নিজের পথে চলো, তুমি কী-চাও তা জানো। তুমি যদি এতে মনস্থির করো তাহলে তুমি অবশ্যই তা অর্জন করতে পারবে।
কোলকাতা সাহিত্য সভার পর তিনি দিল্লী গমন করেন। সেখানে তিনি ইউনূস সেন্টার ও ইউনূস সোশ্যাল বিজনেস ইন্ডিয়ার মধ্যে একটি সামাজিক ব্যবসা সহযোগিতা কর্মসূচি নিয়ে আলোচনা করতে অশোকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে যান। দিল্লী থেকে মাত্র এক ঘন্টার দূরত্বে অবস্থিত অশোকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় একটি উদ্ভাবনশীল বহুমুখী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় যা সফল উদ্যোক্তা ও সমাজ পরিবর্তনের জন্য নেতৃত্ব তৈরী করার উপর জোর দেয়। অশোকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় তার ক্যাম্পাসে একটি ইউনূস সামাজিক ব্যবসা কেন্দ্র স্থাপনের ঘোষণা দিয়েছে। আগামী এপ্রিলেই এই উদ্দেশে চুক্তি স্বাক্ষরিত হবে।
দিল্লীতে অবস্থানকালে প্রফেসর ইউনূস ইমপ্যাক্ট ইনভেস্টিং কাউন্সিল-এর একটি বোর্ড সভায় ও একটি সদস্য সভায় যোগ দেন। ইমপ্যাক্ট ইনভেস্টিং কাউন্সিল ভারতে ইমপ্যাক্ট ইনভেস্টিং কমিউনিটির একটি নীতি উপদেষ্টা সংস্থা। ভারতের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ব্যবসায়ী ব্যক্তিগণ এবং নেহেরু মিউজিয়াম এন্ড লাইব্রেরীর নীতি নির্ধারকরা এর সদস্য।
সপ্তাহের শেষে ২৫ জানুয়ারী ২০১৮ প্রফেসর ইউনূস জয়পুর সাহিত্য উৎসবে যোগ দেন। দর্শক-পরিপূর্ণ অনুষ্ঠান মঞ্চে তাঁর সাক্ষাৎকার নেন অর্থনীতিবিদ মিহির শর্মা। তাঁর নতুন বই A World of Three Zeroes” নিয়ে আলোচনাকালে প্রফেসর ইউনূস বলেন, “দারিদ্র দরিদ্র মানুষদের দ্বারা সৃষ্ট কোনো সমস্যা নয়; এটা বাইরে থেকে তাদের উপর চাপিয়ে দেয়া হয়েছে। মানুষের প্রয়োজন অর্থনৈতিক অক্সিজেন। যেহেতু তাদেরকে এটা সরবরাহ করা হয়না, তাই তারা নিঃশ্বাস নিতে পারেনা। দরিদ্রদেরকে আর্থিক অক্সিজেনের সাথে যুক্ত করা হলে তারা সঙ্গে সঙ্গে জীবিত হয়ে ওঠে। গোটা পৃথিবীর আর্থিক ব্যবস্থা দরিদ্র-বান্ধব নয়।” তাঁর মতে, পৃথিবীর সকল মানুষের মধ্যে উদ্যোক্তা-প্রতিভা রয়েছে, কিন্তু আর্থিক বিশ্ব তা স্বীকার করে না। তিনি বিশ্বাস করেন যে, শুধুমাত্র নতুন নতুন উদ্যোক্তা সৃষ্টির মাধ্যমেই সমাজকে আরো বেশী সমতাভিত্তিক করা সম্ভব।
এরপর ২৬ জানুয়ারী অর্থাৎ ভারতের প্রজাতন্ত্র দিবসে আয়েজিত একটি বিশেষ সমাবর্তন অনুষ্ঠানে অ্যামিটি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় রাজস্থান প্রফেসর ইউনূসকে Doctor of Philosophy Honoris Causa ডিগ্রী প্রদান করে। সমাবর্তন অনুষ্ঠানে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়টির চ্যান্সেলর ড. অসীম চৌহান ঘোষণা করেন যে, ভারতে তাঁদের ১০টি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রতিটিতে একটি করে ইউনূস সামাজিক ব্যবসা কেন্দ্র প্রতিষ্ঠা করা হবে। উল্লেখ্য যে, ভারতে এই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়গুলোর ৪০টি ক্যাম্পাস এবং ভারতের বাইরে আরো ১৫টি আন্তর্জাতিক ক্যাম্পাস রয়েছে। চ্যান্সেলর আরো ঘোষণা করেন যে, রাজস্থানে প্রতিষ্ঠিত প্রথম ইউনূস সামাজিক ব্যবসা কেন্দ্রটি সামাজিক ব্যবসার উপর দু’টি পিএইচডি ডিগ্রী প্রদান করবে। সম্মাননা গ্রহণকালে প্রফেসর ইউনূস ছাত্রদেরকে তারা কী-রকম পৃথিবীতে বাস করতে চায় তা কল্পনা করে নিতে এবং তাদের নিজেদেরকেই সে পৃথিবী গড়ে নিতে আহ্বান জানান।
ভারতে অবস্থানকালে প্রফেসর ইউনূস ভারতের বিভিন্ন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ মিডিয়া যেমন ইন্ডিয়ান এক্সপ্রেস, এনডিটিভি, দি স্টেট্সম্যান, আউটলুক ইন্ডিয়া, হিন্দুস্তান টাইমস সহ আরো কয়েকটি পত্রিকা ও টিভি চ্যানেলকে সাক্ষাৎকার দেন।
