Yunus Social Business Centres Opened in Four Countries

Representatives of the Universities are with Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus after the signing of the MoUs to establish four Yunus Social Business Centres at Universities in Spain, India, Thailand and Malaysia.

MoUs were signed today between Yunus Centre and universities in India, Malaysia, and Spain to establish Yunus Social Business Centres (YSBC) at their institutions. Another will be signed tomorrow with the largest public university in Thailand.
These become part of a growing network of social business centres, linked with Professor Muhammad Yunus, around the world, bringing the total number of YSBCs to 26 in countries around the world. YSBCs develop and offer courses on social business for the students and business executives, also facilitate research in social business. The centers also serve as connecting hubs among academics, social business entrepreneurs and students who are interested in the practice of social business.
During the signing ceremonies an MoU was signed for establishing YSBC at University Sains Malaysia. With around 30,000 students and three campuses, USM is one of the leading public universities of Malaysia located in Penang. Professor Dr. Azlan Amran, Dean, Graduate School of Business and Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chairman, Yunus Centre signed the MoU on behalf of respective organizations.
One MOU was between SSM College of Engineering (SSMCE) India and Yunus Centre and another was between 7 universities in Barcelona and Yunus Centre to create a single Yunus Social Business Centre in that city.
SSMCE is a leading engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu, India affiliated with Anna University, Chennai. Dr. M.S. Mathivanan, Founder and Chairman of the college and Professor Muhammad Yunus signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions.
The YSBC, that is going to be established in Barcelona Spain is unique as it is a collaboration of seven local universities coming together to establish this joint centre. The names of the universities that will form this centre are Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), University of Barcelona (UB), Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), University Polytechnic of Catalonia (UOC) Open University of Catalonia (UOC), International University of Catalonia (UIC), Abat Oliba University (UAO) and EADA University Foundation. Dr. Elisabeth Garriga from EADA University Foundation and Professor Muhammad Yunus signed for establishing the YSBC on behalf of their institutions.
A delegation is arriving tomorrow from Thailand to sign the fourth MoU between Yunus Centre and the Kasetsart University to establish YSBC at the university. Kasetsart is the largest public university in Thailand with more than 50,000 students. It is the first agricultural university and the third oldest university in Thailand. It was established in 1943. Associate Professor Sasivimol Meeampol, DBA, Dean of Business School of Kasetsart University and Professor Muhammad Yunus signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides.
