Global Social Business Summit concludes in Mexico City

Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus delivers a public lecture on his journey from creating Grameen Bank to the global social business movement to an audience of more than 1,500 participants at the Expo Bancomer Convention Center in  Mexico City on 29 November at the conclusion of the Global Social Business Summit 2014.

The Global Social Business Summit took place in Mexico City from 27-28 November 2014. It was inaugurated by Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus on the morning of 27 November at Expo Bancomer convention centre in Mexico City.

Professor Yunus made a keynote speech highlighting that we need new way to think about changing the world, that change will come about through small actions, and repeating those actions to reach scale.  He said the Summit was an opportunity for us to share experience of all the exciting social business that are developing around the world to energize each other.

Yunus to inaugurate Global Social Business Summit 2014 in Mexico

Global Social Business Summit 2014 The Global Social Business Summit 2014 will take place from 25-28 November in Mexico City. Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto will together inaugurate the Summit.

The motto of this year's Summit is will be "Shaping Social Business - To Shape the World of 2020", to set an impetus for the social business movement in Mexico, Latin America and the whole world. Mexico City as hosting city will mark the first time that the Global Social Business Summit will be held in the Americas. The annual event is organized by Grameen Creative lab and Yunus Centre and will gather experts from the private sector, civil society, governments and academia over a few days of meetings, forums and workshops.

Nobel laureate Professor Yunus addressed as chief guest at the celebration of fourth anniversary of social enterprise UK held at the British parliament building to celebrate the occasion of Social Enterprise Day on November 20. Yunus congratulated the Houses of Parliament for their support for social enterprises.

The celebration was jointly hosted by Speaker of the House of Commons, Rt Hon John Bercow MP, and Speaker of the House of Lords, Baroness D’Souza. Professor Yunus was the Chief Guest at the ceremony Co-chaired by the Speakers of both the houses of parliament. Social enterprise delegates from China, Canada, India, Hong Kong, Nigeria, UK, USA and many other countries numbering 150 delegates and senior officials from British government and British social enterprises attended the celebration - showing their commitment to help grow the number of businesses and public bodies buying from Britain’s social enterprises.

The 37th Social Business Design Lab took place on 15 November 2014 at the Grameen Bank Bhaban. Hundred and fifty participants and observers from national and international organizations including Dr. Cecep Effendi Director General of Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP), a team of American cultural ambassadors, GIZ from Germany, representatives from Centre for Rehabilitation for the Paralyzed (CRP), Queen’s University, Canada, JICA from Japan, participants from different universities at home and abroad including a group of 34 students from South-East University attended the event. There were also participants from Canada, Malaysia, India, Japan, Albania and Italy at the event.
